Is It More Efficient to Keep Your Hot Tub Hot or Heat It up for Each Use?

If you’re considering purchasing a hot tub or thinking of ways to save money, follow Jewel Hot Tub’s guide on how to make your hot tub more energy efficient.

Keep Your Hot Tub Hot

Simply put, keeping your hot tub hot and running permanently is more efficient. We know that is surprising, as you probably think that an easy way to save money on energy bills and reduce the running cost is to heat it up for each use. However, Jewel’s range of hot tubs is designed to run using low energy and function best when left running, even if you’re not a frequent soaker.

Don’t worry, your money won’t be going down the drain. The average hot tub contains around 1,000 litres of water, roughly the same volume that could fill 600 standard kettles. Imagine how much it would cost to boil 600 kettles! As well as this, it can take up to 15 hours to heat up a hot tub due to the large volume of water.

If you’re a frequent jet lover or an occasional toe dipper, keeping your hot tub running is more efficient than heating it up for each use. Not only because of how much energy it uses but the length of time it takes to heat cold water.

Thermally Efficient Design

At Jewel, we offer two bespoke ranges of energy efficient hot tubs. Our Oasis range is an amazing option if you want something entirely controlled by you. As well as having minimum operating costs, you can have advanced control of the temperature, lighting, filtration and more!

The second option that we offer homeowners in Surrey and the surrounding areas, is the Sunbeach range. This option is the most energy efficient and quietest hot tub on the market, as 30 minutes of use a day can cost as little as £5 a week!

You’re probably wondering how our ranges are so cost effective. Well, the Oasis range is built with a robust and energy efficient shell foam. This improves the model's overall insulation, conserving heat with minimum energy use. Alternatively, the Sunbeach range is fitted with R10 insulation panels, which is the most advanced insulation system available on the market. Both ranges are also installed with high performing covers. Their tight seals mean heat will be retained in your tub even when not in use.

When Should You Switch Your Tub Off

There are occasions when switching your hot tub off is necessary. To keep your hot tub clean and functioning to the highest standard, general cleaning maintenance must be carried out at least 3 to 4 times a year. This involves draining your tub and sometimes employing a professional cleaner if your hot tub has been neglected.

Another occasion where turning your hot tub off is the most efficient solution is if you aren’t getting the use out of it. You may occupy your tub more in winter and less in summer or vice versa. If you find that there are periods when you’re not using your tub, Jewel recommends draining your system and switching it off until you get the use out of it again. Regular maintenance is vital to the performance and efficiency of your hot tub.

Keep It Cool

We don’t mean become a hoffer and have ice baths, but it would be more efficient and lower your energy costs if you run your system at a lower temperature. Even just decreasing it by a couple of degrees which would be an unnoticeable difference, could have a huge impact on the running costs.
